Fishing and Scouting for Adam's Moose Hunt

Wow! August 9 already!  Adam's hospital had a VERY positive review, I knew they would with Adam's organization and hard work being a part of it!  He/we are thankful it's over and I am proud of all his hours of hard work paying off! I head back to school this week and hunting season has started!  Adam and a buddy left yesterday morning for a sheep hunt!  Here are a couple more summer adventures...

After successful dipnetting, Adam still wanted to get a line wet, so we spent a weekend fishing the Kenai in Soldotna.  Our neighbors went too!  We found a new spot, thanks to a gentleman who was willing to share the location.  After a mile hike in and a few hours of fishing, we had 12 red/sockeye salmon!

Adam netting for Dave's first red.  Tundra was very eager!
The catch!  It was a great day!
Just following in my dad's footsteps-- cooking breakfast in the castiron over the fire!  Yummy!
Now that the review is over, Adam finally had time to take off for scouting his moose hunt.  We hauled the boat about 6 hours north for a 3-day weekend roadtrip.  We figured out access points and hiked a couple hours into his hunt area.  We also spoke with the local fish and game office and a few locals.  I will let him share any more details.  Scouting is KEY for hunting in Alaska and one of the reasons we have meat in our freezer.

A stop at the gas station in Glen Allen is a must, especially since there is this amazing food truck!  It is delicious and baby wanted it both times we drove through, so we ate it twice!
The pipeline crossing over a river!
 The pipeline again, so cool!
We drove by many lakes, rivers and ponds.
We also checked out some rivers for salmon fishing next year.  We have always gone south to the Kenai/Russian and would like to go north next year to the Copper River area- we checked out the Gulkana River in a few different spots, the Tazlina, and looked over a part of the Copper.  Copper River salmon is suppose to be the tastiest and go figure- trickier to get!

We slept in the back of the truck, Tundra was ready for bed!

 Lake Louise!
So clear!  This is what I love about the water up here, even the lakes are clear and beautiful.  It hit mid 70's in temperature, people were jet skiing and swimming! SO HOT for Alaska!
This picture doesn't do the view justice, we could see for miles, including this rainstorm.
We also drove by several glaciers, another beauty of Alaska

 Zoomed all the way out.................
Zoomed in- the same photo area as the above pic.  My camera is a point and shoot but the zoom is insane and it takes great photos! I recommend it to anyone. Also- our northern lights pics are taken with it. Sony Cybershot
Fish wheel!  Another way for subsistence fishing, but just up north.  It is powered by the water on a floating dock with holding bins.
 Another wheel
 And a couple more
YUUUUUUUUUUUUM, one of our absolute favorites-- our neighbor, Debbie's key lime pie!  Always a welcome surprise, it is insane delicious!

I have been doing a lot of berry picking, stocking up for smoothies!  The raspberry bushes I planted in our backyard have more than doubled and are producing berries like mad this year.  SO MANY and HUGE!  I spent some time picking blueberries on the mountain, also cranberries and nangoon berries along a river.  So last week, Tundy and I were picking cran and nangoon berries when we came across this....... brown bear cache!  I had never seen bear or signs of bear at this part of the trail, only further down, so I was surprised- plus it was only 25 yards off the trail we frequent!  It was older, so I wasn't concerned about safety and took a couple pics.  A brown bear cache is wear it buries its' kill to go back to later for another snack or meal.
Moose jaw/teeth and some other bone that was shattered.
August=the start of hunting season and the final push for getting in shape, otherwise, hiking mountains with weight on your back! Fun.... I know, ugh!  This paraglider hiked the mountain with weight on his back (the parachute and gear) and then jumped off to glide down.

My new favorite picture!  Love this flag, love this dog, love this mountain!
A house down the street took down all the trees in their yard :(  I WOULD NOT want this guy's job!

AAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNDDDDD we had our first ultrasound!  We could NOT stop smiling in the waiting room!  What an amazing experience to see our baby for the first time!  And my goodness, I was pleasantly surprised by how much it was moving!  Adam tried to get a video of it moving, but of course everytime he pushed record- it stopped moving!  Maybe next time!

Adam is so creative- thought of this himself. .....it is our baby with a photo-shopped thumb! :)

Hope all is well, take care ya'll!
