Fishing and Kucera/Harris Visit

Adam and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary on June 13!!! :)

The pups enjoyed watching us NOT catching fish! King Salmon fishing in our boat on the Deshka River

Lovin the boat ride!--- life jackets on!

Adam's first King Salmon! :)

Captain Harris- lovin his new toy! :) This was our first outting on the Little Susitna River-- it is super shallow and you have to know the river..... we sucked up a couple rocks! It was a good time though! The first fish caught on our new boat was by the previous owner who took us out this day to show us the river.

So the Harris parents and Kucera parents came up to visit at the same time for a 10 day party! We had loads of fun and went non-stop. We went hiking, camping (on the beach!), salmon fishing, halibut fishing, and clamming. They got to eat halibut, KING salmon, caribou, razor clams, king crab, and bear. Everyone liked it all (except Jeanettey!) We had a wonderful time and it went far too fast. Also- they wouldn't leave here w/o helping around the house a bit so they took care of us on our "down-time". We also went to the Anchorage weekend market- lots of food, art, and great people. They also got to see A LOT of wildlife..... numerous eagles, 3 moose, 1 black bear, salmon, halibut, clams, orca, puffin, seals, AND A WOLF!!! yes- it was also my first wolf. It just cantered across the road and disappeared. Here are some pics from their trip.......

Climbing Mt. Baldy in Eagle River

Proud of daddio-- made it to the top! :)

On top of the world!

Watchin the rain move in Oh yeah!!- he conquered THAT mountain! We saw a car on fire-- yes we were those gawkers!

The girls ready for a day/night out on the river! We had many, many compliments and pictures of our "pretty" fishing outfits!

The mamas caught salmon! **note dad sitting/pouting in the background!**

The fun begins when ya return home with wet/sandy camping gear! Our campsite on THE BEACH!!!!! it was fabulous! Note the rock line- where high tide reaches! Pretty crazy!

bonfire on the beach! (this was at like midnight--sitting around a bonfire is a lil different when it's not dark!)

The results of clamming in the rain! yummy razor clams!

Ma and Pa Kucera ready to clam.....in the rain! We both think he's a lap dog! Jeanettey w/ her first clam. I don't know who wants it more- Tundra or that massive Eagle in the background!

We went out on a halibut charter-- these are pretty small halibut- AKA Chickens. But yummy and filling the freezer! I don't know how we'd get in anything bigger than this- hard work when fishing 137 feet down and fighting the current w/ a 3lb weight on!

This is how they "launch" in Ninilchick-- tractor launch. Pretty amazing and efficient!

Beautiful day for halibut fishin

Managed a smile from mom as she fought her pole! Dad-- not so much!

Jeanettey took this--- us on our boat. Look at the scenery!

Taken from our campsite-- Adam fishing high tide for halibut from shore of Clam Gulch.

Our hansome pup at sunset

Scenery on our drive down/up the Seward highway

Glacier .... looks like it'll pour out onto the road!

Kincaid park Kincaid park- rock beach! Tundra loved the market!... dogs and kids EVERYWHERE- his favorite! yes- star fish in Alaska! (well- minus this poor lil fella!)

Cute lil black bear munchin on dandelions!

That's the bear- this is how close we were lucky enough to be. We could HEAR it crunchin on them! An immature bald eagle- we saw it get released by Bird TLC.

There is an eagle on that rock

Just a few eagles and some gulls scrappin up some clams at low tide.

Absolutely amazing to see the salmon jumping up the Russian River Falls-- unbelievable! :) Take a number for your turn to jump the falls! awww shucks- no fishin here!

This lil squirrel was raking through the cotton for the seeds

I don't know what these are- but they are neato! We met this poor lil baby on the road- running hard

This is mama Kucera demonstrating how to use a clam gun!

Adam and Jeanette both have waterproof cameras that can actually be submerged under the water. This is Jeanette's shot of the salmon below the falls

This weekend we are backpacking in to Symphony Lake w/ Erin, Shawn, and Chena for some grayling fishing. Next will be Doug and Steph's visit (Adam's cousins). Then Sanibel!! :)
